Early Days in my city | Diary of a Teach For India Fellow | My TFI Journey | My TFI Ahmedabad experience | Building Student Leaders | Design For Change

Once we had completed our institute in Pune, we were off to our respective cities. I went to Ahmedabad but not directly. My friend and I decided to visit Mumbai for sightseeing and for indulging in all the touristy affair that Mumbai had to offer. From Mumbai we boarded a plane to our destination city- the city of Gandhi, the city of peace and love, the city of Ahmedabad.
Now I am staying in a rented flat with 2 lovely fellows who are just like me. Arpit and Cibin love to experiment with their lives, they like to travel and explore new places, they are foodies in a true sense and they are also highly committed towards the cause. I like them so much more because they are so very gentle and caring. They are among the nicest people I have ever met in my life. Moving to a new city initially felt so overwhelming but with their love and care, their amazing humour and their huge support, I seldom feel homesick.
I have never really stayed away from my home for too long. Being at home, I always took everything for granted as there was nothing to worry about. Now I worry about everything- remembering to buy fruits and vegetables while coming home, ensuring that our clothes are washed and ironed properly, making a call to Tiffin-waali-didi each morning lest we miss our lunch and dinner,  pestering the landlord with anything I can think of, making sure that I have an auto waiting for me in the morning to take me to my school, and the list just goes on and on and on.   Am I overwhelmed with this cornucopia of problems that I am facing right now? Well, initially I was very much overwhelmed and even felt devastated at times. But now after having spent a month in the city, I am beginning to get the hang of things. I have more or less accepted the reality that I have to live with for the next two years and I have no intention of running from it. I have already learnt so much from the everyday challenges that I face (of course work related challenges are also there in plenty). In a way, I enjoy the independence, freedom and sense of ownership that comes along with all the problems that I face. I love the way how each day teaches me new lessons.
I am really happy to be in a new city. I am beginning to love Amdavad. :))
